It is in the name for a reason. Walls are where a garden gets its structure: they hold back the levels, carry the steps, frame the planting and give an outdoor space its rooms. Get them right and everything else has something to lean on.
Much of our walling work in the south east means respecting what is already standing. Old brick and flint has a character you cannot buy new, so where walls can be saved we make them good, matching brick, flint and mortar carefully. Where they cannot, we rebuild using the original materials, and the join is hard to find. The raised beds above were built exactly that way, with the original wrought iron rail cleaned up and rehung rather than binned.
Every wall gets a proper footing sized for its height and its ground. More digging, better wall. That part is not negotiable.

Can you match our existing brickwork?
We take time over matching brick, flint and mortar so new courses sit comfortably against old ones. In the walled garden project the new work reads as part of the original walls, which is exactly the aim.
Do garden walls need foundations?
Yes. Any wall worth building gets a proper footing sized for its height and the ground it stands on. It is more digging and it is not negotiable.
Do you build raised beds?
Yes, in brick, flint, stone and oak sleepers, with drainage thought through so the planting actually thrives in them.
Can you repair a leaning or crumbling wall?
Usually, and we will tell you honestly when a wall is past saving. Sometimes the right answer is to take it down and rebuild with the original materials.
